New things that began around October 2024

The last 3 months of last year so many things changed, and have now become normal.
I'm sure I'll forgot how it used to be so here's a list:

- Our child does all their own daily medicine. 3 years ago Soeun did most of it, then I started doing some, then I was doing it the most, then the child joined in  (thanks tickleflex) and we 3 were all taking turns.  Since the end of last year he pretty much does all the injections himself.

-No tickets needed for the roads in the temple park, only for going into the temples. The rules have changed a few times over the last 10 years that I've lived here. The most recent happened in September last year, just in time for our family visit. They did buy a ticket and spend a day visiting the famous temples. But before that we had a tuk tuk ride through the park, about 30km that would not have been possible just the month before (until after 5:30) We could do the big circle, just by passing Angkor Thom. With a stop at Srah Srang.

In October they even removed the ticket huts my children and I were so used to seeing everytime we went into town and back again. We always had to yell out to the ticket checkers that we were just going to town, not seeing the temples. Its bizarre those huts aren't there anymore but soon we'll forget it was normal.

-I started using the banking app QR code. Up until the end of last year I was paying most things with cash, Soeun and many others were already using the app. Even many small vendors at the market use it, and tuktuk drivers. Its so convientant I keep forgetting to get cash out these days, There is also one place I shop that takes visa debit card, but cash is still easier generally.

-Our kids started riding bikes in the yard together. A new way to have fun. A nice quick exercise break for a school morning.

-New Bible study group started in October. I've been meeting with a group of English speaking ladies for Bible study weekly. It was getting too big. Around the start of October last year, we split the group and started meeting as 2 new groups.

"Killing Fields" museum in Siem Reap

So the main place tourist would go for this is just outside the captial city. But it turns out we have a mini one in our own town.

Outdoors with friends

With hot season looming we're taking the time to be outside with friends while we still can. Yesterday we met up with people to walk around a small man made lake in the jungle-temple park.

Still cold but getting ready for hot season

We just wanted a few branches trimmed so rats can't climb onto our house...but the trimmer went a bit too far. Its lovely at the moment being able to see the sunset.

But the hottest months are approaching. The house was designed to not need air con, and part of that was the trees around the house.  Hopefully, foil and shade cloth will mean we can still live in our house next month.

Our first 5 hot seasons in this house were ok, but the 6th one it turned out MAY was dangerously hot. And then the 7th April had many days 'feels like 47'.

Hoping this hot season is back to normal.

January 2025

Just some random photos from this month. Cool weather, trying to make the most of it by getting lots of outside time and homeschool done.
Ran of out of cooking gas and regular shop shut, used a friends electric stove for awhile.
Low air quality was a hot topic tbis month.
